I haven't a clue
My wife said it would never happen to me in Greece. She was wrong. What am I talking about? Over the years, during my trips to Europe, I've been frequently approached by strangers asking for directions. Not just tourists but also locals from out of town. I usually walk with a determined pace looking straight ahead , even when I'm in a strange city, so they think I know my way around . Once I was near Covent garden sheltering from the usual dismal London drizzle, having my simple lunch of fruit salad, when an American lady asked me for direction to some arts theatre ticket office. Guess I looked as if I belonged, leaning against the wall and eating nonchalantly.
Well, yesterday this Greek guy was coming down the escalator from behind me (no jokes please) and asked( in Greek) whether this was the way to the platform for Ag.Ioannis. Then he realized his mistake and apologized in English. I guess my tanned skin and dark hair made me look like a local from behind?
Today I have to change hotels as I am joining the tour group. Its about 20 minutes walk away and I'm not sure whether to copp out and take a taxi or walk there with my full backpack which I did to get to this nearby internet cafe. Boy its heavy and hot!! See how it goes.
