Watzup Speedy

Decided to take it easy today. Late breakfast at one of the many cafe/restuarants overlooking the caldera. Wonderful view but pricey. They have a cable car going down to the old port but cost 3.50 Euros each way. There's a wide switch back stair way down but its a long way and not in this heat thank you. Made enquiries about ferries to other island or back to Piraeus, Athens.
Took the bus to Oia, which is in the northwest of the island and about 20 minutes from Fira. Torturous but scenic route by the sea. All the hill/ mountain roads are very narrow and although two lanes, its a squeeze when two buses are involved. Oia is even more of a picture postcard than Fira but quieter and less commercial. Enquired about a room at Lauda apartments and was told there is a single ( with view and kitchenette ) available for the weekend at only 40 Euros. Wanted to check another place first which turned out to be full sized apartments for 140 Euros. Returned to Lauda to book the room but the lady at reception was not around. Waited a while, but it was time to catch the bus back. Just as well I'm not spending the weekend at Oia , as the guidebook points out that local lore says its haunted by Vampires.
